Hopefully I should be getting some sheets of 1/2 ' MDF sometime this week in order to fashion some spacers for my zapco components. Now i'm done with the door deadening and onto the actual speaker installation. I had to use a lot of small pieces but I figure they all function the same way in deadening the vibrations that occur.

I used some galvanized wire mesh and self-tapping sheet metal screws to secure the raamat over the openings.

Used Davenow's worklog as kind of a guide as I did my install since I've got Zapco's going in the door as well. I think I did a decent job for my first time given the door sounds infinitely better, and I just took a drive and the cabin is noticeably quieter. So i started to deaden the front doors using Raamat BXT II and P/S Ensolite. Lastly, do you think i should replace these tweeter placements with the zapco tweeters? Or should i put them up closer to head level somewhere? What should I do about the mesh that protects the speaker? Just wondering how I should approach this while applying the raamat and such? For example, how should I go about covering the openings like the one where the door latch mechanism passes through? After taking the plastic covering off, this is what it looked like. So while i was working on the car, i decided to take my door panels off for the first time to see what it actually looks like underneath. Hopefully I'll be able to get around to installing the rest this weekend. I should be getting a set of zapco 5-1/4' speakers in the mail tomorrow and then raamat BXT II and ensolite for door deadening. Set everything up and the amp itself is not all wired and set up behind my dash. Okay, so I decided to go with the Alpine KTP-445 for an amp since the install and set-up is so simple and this is my first install.

They are far better then the stocks, they get loud with decent midbass, and the tweeter has decent detail for the price however it does get a bit fatigueing after a while. I am pretty happy with them but will be upgrading soon. I also have my doors deadened and sealed. I run these in my fronts, amped with about 150 watts sent to them. Even a place like Best Buy has a few of these lower end sets and would be at least worth stopping by, their listening environment isn't the best however.ĭo some searching on here to find what a few others are using in their doors, there are a ton of good speakers out there from many differnent brands.

I would try and go listen to speakers at your local car audio shop to see what you like, target lower end components. Most can be easily fit with the kartboy spacer, and they will give you that better low end which you are looking for. Without going into specific models and whatnot, in general your budget for HU power friendly speakers is probably $150 a set. You will not get the most out of the more expensive component sets without amplification, and the mid bass generated by them will rattle your doors enough to make you want to seal and deaden them, both which will add cost to your install. Decide if you have the budget and the desire to install an amp, and pick your speakers from there.
